A spotless, line-less, flawless complexion is lying just beneath the surface of your skin—and we have a classic treatment to unravel it.

The skin is the body’s largest organ and is made up on millions of cells. Thousands of new cells replace old, dead skin cells on a daily basis. But with age and due to certain environmental and lifestyle factors this process begins to slow down. This results in layers of dead cells accumulating on the skin’s surface, that in turn make the skin look uneven, darker than usual and dull.

What are Professional Peels

Professional (Medical Grade) peels speed up skin cell turnover essentially making them skin resurfacing and exfoliation agents. The basic aim of chemical peels is to replace the outer, dead layers of tired, blemished and wrinkled skin to reveal the underlying areas of fresher, younger looking skin. It also promotes the generation of collagen in the skin. SkinLab only uses the highest quality, medical grade peels in all its treatments.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the different types of peels?

There are a variety of peels ranging from the superficial depth peels to the deep ones, each for a different set of indications. Peels contain a form of acidic compounds (AHAs), glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid or trichloroacetic acid (TCA), or a combination of a few varieties. Our expert doctors will prescribe the right peel combination after examining your skin.

What does the procedure involve?

Depending on your skin type and the desired results, our doctors may recommend a superficial, medium, or deep chemical peel. Next they will select the proper chemical or mix of chemicals (glycolic acid, salicylic acid or a TCA peel for instance) and apply the solution to various areas of skin. Once applied, the chemical produces a separation and peeling of the outer layers of the skin. This stimulates the production of new skin from beneath. Post this a pore sealing, cleansing mask may be applied depending on your treatment protocol.

Is it painful?

Professional peels can be performed on the face, neck, chest, hands and even the arms and legs. The procedure is very comfortable with most patients experiencing a warm to hot sensation that may last as long as ten minutes followed by a mild stinging sensation.

How many sessions will i require?

Depending on the severity of your condition you may require 4-6 sessions. Results are long lasting and a single maintenance session may be required every 2-3 months. Our doctors will draw up a plan with you to ensure optimum results.

What results can i expect?

Reactions to chemical peels range from mild to more pronounced. Generally, the deeper the peel, the longer the recovery. Peels are great first line treatments for many conditions and great maintenance in between other treatments. Depending on the type of peel, recovery time can range from minimal with no real “peeling” to a few days of mild redness and exfoliation. Patients generally see improved skin tone and texture with each treatment. Following a chemical peel, your new skin will be tighter, smoother and brighter than it was before. Following any skin peel, it is important that you avoid any exposure to the sun. Your new skin is very sensitive and susceptible to injury. Always apply a wide spectrum (UVA and UVB blocking) sunblock of at least SPF 15 20 minutes before you go outside. Our doctors will prescribe a proper home skin care treatment program to ensure proper healing.
